A Dongseong-ro shopping and skin day

JRYN Clinic Daegu is on Dongseong-ro, the main shopping street in central Daegu. Here is how to build a day around your appointment, with markets, old alleys and local food nearby.

Quick answer: Book your treatment for the morning (the clinic opens at 10:30), then spend the rest of the day on foot: Dongseong-ro's shops outside the door, the Yangnyeongsi herbal medicine market and the modern history alleys just to the west, and the Gyodong Market food alley near Daegu Station. Seomun Market and Kim Kwang-seok Street are a short subway or taxi ride away. Wear sunscreen and skip saunas after treatment.

Start on Dongseong-ro

Dongseong-ro's main stretch runs about 900 m between the Daegu Station intersection and the Dongseong-ro Tourist Information Center, lined with department stores, malls, brand shops, bookstores, cinemas and performance halls. The clinic is at number 20, opposite the ZARA store, so you start in the middle of it. Under Jungangno Station, the Daehyun PriMall underground shopping centre is useful on a rainy or very hot day. The Dongseong-ro Tourist Information Center (435 Jungang-daero, tel. 053-252-2696) helps with maps, shopping, transport and lodging, with interpretation available.

Nearby, 2.28 Memorial Central Park (80 Dongseong-ro 2-gil) commemorates the student democracy protest of 28 February 1960. It is open at all times and makes a quiet place to sit between shops.

Yangnyeongsi and the old town alleys

Daegu's herbal medicine market, Yangnyeongsi , has about 350 years of history. It lies between Jungangno and Banwoldang stations, just west of the Dongseong-ro area, roughly a 5–10 minute walk by our estimate. The Yangnyeongsi Museum of Oriental Medicine is free; official pages disagree on its closing days, so check before you go. The Daegu Yangnyeongsi Festival is held in May.

From there you can join Jung-gu's Modern History Alleys , course 2: about 1.64 km and two hours, starting at Cheongna Hill with its early-1900s missionary houses, down the 90-step March 1st Movement Road to Gyesan Cathedral, built in 1902 as Daegu's first Gothic-style church, then past the Yi Sang-hwa and Seo Sang-don houses and Jingol alley. To start at the top, take Line 1 one stop to Banwoldang and change to Line 2 for one stop to Cheongna Hill, or walk west via Yangnyeongsi (roughly 15 minutes, by our estimate). Free guided tours run every Saturday at 10:00 and 14:00 (tel. 053-661-2624).

Gyodong Market food alley

North-east of Dongseong-ro, near Daegu Station, the old Gyodong quarter has a food alley selling Daegu snacks and a jewellery street that grew out of 1970s watch shops. By our estimate it is about a 10-minute walk from the clinic.

Seomun Market

Seomun Market is one of Korea's large traditional markets, with over 5,000 shops selling textiles, hanbok and local foods such as nureun guksu and napjak mandu. By subway: Line 1 to Banwoldang, Line 2 to Cheongna Hill, then Line 3 one stop to Seomun Market Station; on foot it is roughly 20–25 minutes by our estimate. The market opens 09:00–18:00 and closes on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month. The night market runs on Friday to Sunday evenings in the 2026 season, and weekend crowds are large.

Kim Kwang-seok Street

This 350 m mural alley behind Bangcheon Market is devoted to the life and songs of the late folk singer Kim Kwang-seok, with statues and murals. It is open at all times. The nearest subway station appears to be Kyungpook Nat'l Univ. Hospital, one stop east of Banwoldang on Line 2; alternatively, walk south-east from Dongseong-ro, roughly 20 minutes by our estimate.

Sightseeing that is kind to your skin

Most of this route is outdoors, so pack SPF 50 and a hat, especially after laser toning. Skip saunas, jjimjilbang and very hot baths for a few days after most treatments, and go easy on alcohol at the night market, particularly after Botox, fillers or boosters. If your treatment leaves you without makeup for the rest of the day, plan the photo stops for tomorrow. Shopping for skincare? Ask the doctor which products to pause; after many treatments, strong actives such as retinol or acids are worth pausing until your skin has settled.

FAQ

Dongseong-ro day, answered

Is JRYN Clinic Daegu on Dongseong-ro itself?
Yes. The clinic is at 20 Dongseong-ro, opposite the ZARA store, a 3-minute walk from Jungangno Station (Line 1) Exit 2.
Should I have treatment before or after sightseeing?
For treatments with little downtime, a morning appointment works well: any mild redness settles while you explore. For anything that needs rest afterwards, book the end of the day and plan sightseeing first. The doctor tells you what to expect.
How do I get from the clinic to Seomun Market?
Take Line 1 to Banwoldang, Line 2 to Cheongna Hill, then Line 3 one stop to Seomun Market Station. Walking takes roughly 20–25 minutes by our estimate, and a taxi is a short ride.
Can I go to a jjimjilbang after treatment?
Usually not straight away. After most treatments, avoid saunas, jjimjilbang and very hot baths for a few days. Your doctor's aftercare for your specific treatment comes first.
